Curious about crypto but don’t know where to begin? What is Bitcoin, Ethereum, blockchain, NFTs, and DeFi? How is all this stuff supposed to make me rich? We’ve been there!

The most important thing is to have the right mindset and take action.

Crypto has become super popular, and is becoming even more popular with each passing day.

It may be overwhelming, but you can’t shake the feeling that this is the future.

You know there has been ever increasing growth in marketcap and technologies as the years have gone by, or if you didn’t, you’ll find out now. There are still plenty of opportunities in the space to build something, to gain something, and all it takes is curiosity, the time to learn, and take action on something.

Don’t say, “I’m too dumb to learn this stuff.”

Tell yourself, “I’m learning. I can understand whatever I put my mind to. It just takes time.” Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither was Bitcoin’s marketcap. If you’re interested, just search online, read articles, watch videos on whatever it is that piques your curiosity. Make it interesting. Make it fun to learn.

Learn from as many people as you can.

Whether it’s about Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Dogecoin, the latest trend in the industry…Maybe you come across a long article that’s seemingly impenetrable. If you don’t understand something at first, that’s okay. Be patient. Look it up. Ask someone if you don’t understand. You can ask questions online on some Telegram, Discord, Reddit. If there are haters, or people who don’t have your best interest in mind, ignore them. You might not get an idea the first time around. As you read about the same topics, from different people, articles, channels, you’ll compare perspectives and definitions and triangulate in your mind the meaning of a certain topic. So keep reading, keep thinking, keep learning!

You’ll come across a wide spectrum of beliefs in crypto. There are people who are “Bitcoin maximalists,” who believe in long-term hodling of Bitcoin only. There are people who think Bitcoin is a dinosaur that’s going to disappear in a few years. There are shitcoin traders who are just out there to make an immediate profit. You can learn from a wide spectrum of players in the space and find what makes most sense to you. Learn to discern what’s truth and what’s not for yourself.

Watch out for scams!

There are plenty of projects that get “rug pulled,” which is when an exploit is discovered by a hacker or someone within an organization of a project runs away with the crypto, leaving users drained of their assets. A new sucker is born every millisecond, so reduce your chances of being one by adopting a shrewd yet curious attitude. Please, don’t get rekt.

“Don’t trust. Verify.”

That applies to this project as well. Is BAG token a scam? What are the motivations of any project? Is it just to get rich? Are 99% of projects a scam? Which has real utility? You have to protect your money. Nobody owes you anything.

This is not financial advice. :)

Everyone else is just two steps ahead of you.

Okay, maybe it seems like they’re 1,000,000 steps ahead of you, but any “experts,” “OGs,” or “whales” started off somewhere. They made mistakes. Most people may seem smarter than they actually are. It’s easy to bullshit a lot of it. It may help you to think, people are just a few steps ahead of you. In that way, if you take time to educate yourself and take action, it won’t be long before you’re a few steps ahead of 99% of people.

In fact, if you already distill and absorb some of the ideas and a healthy skeptical attitude from reading content like this, you’re already ahead of the curve. Just think, there were no blogs or communities to help people get into the world of crypto just 10 years ago.

We’re still early.

So, if you’re reading this, and you know JACK about crypto, you can be the arbitrageur of information to people who know less than you. You don’t even have to be a trader.

It’s not just about being a “trader,” going 100x margin and getting liquidated for the lulz.

You can build something. Some project; content creation, a podcast, a channel, a blog, consultancy. This is what being a knowledge broker is, and there are endless opportunities for that. All you need to do is interact with and learn from people who are two steps ahead of you, in order to be two steps ahead of the average person and then provide value to them.

Theoretically, one can make a living just providing services to blockchain customers without ever having to actually own any crypto or be paid in crypto.

Also, you could get a job.

Anybody who starts today can learn something, network with people, until there comes a point someone you know needs something done. If you come off as someone who can get a job done, then they might ask you to fill a role. As in almost any industry, there is always a demand for reliable people with a solid work ethic, the ability to get along with other people, and can learn on their feet. This writer has heard from several people who got full-time jobs in crypto, “I knew nothing about blockchain when I first started. I just know that if I’m given a task, I’ll go and figure it out.”

This article from Messari, a crypto market research/intelligence company, has a great article on how to get started: Web3 Jobs: How to Get a Job in Crypto (Updated 2022)

he best quote: “At the end of the day, people want to work with their friends.”

To reiterate, people like to work with people they like, as long as they get the job done. You can learn to get the job done, and be likable. That’s how this writer got into business. If a bum like me can learn to take responsibility and work with people, then so can you!

This market and industry is not going away.

More and more people find out about crypto every single day, and will continue to do so forever.

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” — Satoshi Nakamoto, CEO of Bitcoin

Just kidding, he didn’t say that. Also, he’s not the CEO of Bitcoin; he’s the CTO.

More importantly, the crypto industry isn’t even 20 years old. What does that tell you?
